The People of Iseyin, in Iseyin local government, especially butchers at the Oluwole Kraal market have called on Oyo State governor, Engr. seyi Makinde to come to their aid and find a solution to the abandoned abbatoir, the condition of which they claimed might cause cholera outbreak, among other diseases in the community.

Many of the butchers at Oluwole Kraal, who spoke with The Chronicler Newspaper under anonimity said the butchers association was forced to construct a temporary slaughter slab so as to prevent infection of meat and cows that were slaughtered, which they feared might affect the people.

Pictures taken by our reporter of the facilities over the weekend show that since the constructioin of the veterinary complex by the military administration of th then General Abdulkarim Adisa in 1992, when the abbatoir was also constructed, no renovation or reconstruction had taken place at the facility.

The slaughter slab has sunk into the swampy land upon which it was constructed while the butchers and cow meat sellers have to contribute money to construct the temporary slab, about forty feet to the dilapidated, abandoned slaughter slab.

When contacted on Monday, the Chairman, Iseyin Local Government, Hon. Mufutau Abilawon said the situation of the facility was brought to his attention recently by the butchers association and he has assured them that renovation work will start soon at the place, as soon as approval and funding are accessed.

Abilawon said the level of rot at the facility was occasioned by long time abandonment, despite the health implication of such to the peoplke of the community, who feed on beef and other items sold at the facility.
