24 of 32 Oyo Assembly Members Move To Impeach Makinde’s Deputy

Twenty-four members of the thirty-two members of the Oyo State House of Assembly have written a petition against the State Deputy Governor, Engr Rauf Olaniyan, accusing him of allegations that might lead to his impeachment.
In the petition written and sent to Olaniyan on Wednesday in Ibadan, he was alleged of gross misconduct, abuse of office, financial recklessness, abandonment of office and official duties, insubordination and other offenses.
The members however gave him seven days to respond to the allegations after which impeachment process will begin against him.

They cited the section 188 of the 2011 amended Nigerian constitution for their action.
The petition was read at the Wednesday plenary by the Clerk, Oyo State Houses of Assembly, Mrs Yetunde Oludara Awe.
The Speaker of the House, Hon Gbadebo Ogundoyin said a copy of the petition will be forwarded to the Deputy Governor to allow him to respond to the allegations.

“24 members in the Oyo State House of Assembly have raised a petition against the State Deputy Governor. He has been alleged of gross misconduct, abuse of office, financial recklessness, abandonment of office, insubordination and other offences. Since the Deputy Governor needs some time to respond to the allegations, the House is giving him 7days to respond accordingly and appropriately. ” Oyo Speaker said
The House which just resumed after a recess has adjourned plenary till Thursday 16th June, 2022.

Olaniyan recently decamped from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC), a move some observers said had infuriated the top hierarchy of the ruling party in the State.
