Aseyin Stool: Oracle, Not Money Will Determine Successor – Oluwo Aseyin
….As Three Akando Households Start Nomination of Consensus Candidates
The Oluwo Aseyin of Iseyin, Chief Ifasoji Adeyemi has disclosed that the new Aseyin of Iseyin will be picked by Ifa oracle and not through financial or political influence.
He said this after a meeting he held at his residence in Iseyin on Saturday, where there were deliberations on the 2022 annual Oro Festival that started on Sunday 4th September in the community.
Oluwo, who doubled as the head of Traditional Worshippers Association (TRWASO), Iseyin Chapter, said the usual practice whereby contestants to the throne would be killing cows and spending money for kingmakers has become a thing of the past, as each of the households of the next royal family would present a consensus candidate.
The Chief Priest added that out of the three contending households of the Akando ruling house, one of them, which he decided not to mention has already presented a candidate.
“Time has changed and we are back to how our forebearers used to do it that made it seamless then, that was the time kingmakers were focused on the progress of the town and not pecuniary gains from selection of a would-be Aseyin of Iseyin.
“This time around, we have met with the representatives of the Akando royal family and the three households that are contesting for the throne have accepted to present one candidate each for the oracle to pick the best from them.
“We want the process to be seamless so as to have another king on the throne within a short period because of the progress of our community, a community without king will have to contend with so much growth challenges and we do not want our Iseyin to suffer because of the vacuum on the throne.”
The three royal families that rotate the throne of Aseyin are Akando, Ajisibi and Majaro, while the late Aseyin, Oba Moshood Osuolale Adeyeri was of Akando, his successor, late Oba Ganiy Alobalowo was of Majaro ruling house and the last Aseyin to join his ancestors, Oba Dr. Abdganiy Salawudeen Adekunle Oloogunebi, Ajinese 1, came from the Ajisibi ruling house.
The Chronicler Newspaper gathered from a reliable source that one of the candidates that the next ruling house, Akando has nominated from one of the households reside in the United States of America and has gotten his wife’s support to contest for the Aseyin throne.
