…. Removes Polling Units from Churches, Mosques
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has created additional polling units, most of which were formerly being used as voting points, according to Cable News.
Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman, said in Abuja on Wednesday that the commission converted a total of 56,872 voting points and voting point settlements into polling units.
With this, Nigeria now has a total of 176,846 polling units.
The move comes as part of preparations for the 2023 general elections which is less than two years away.
The Commission however announced that all polling units sited at mosques and churches around the country be removed.
This could be as a result of incessant violence that followed electoral exercises that could lead to attack on these buildings.
