The Chronicler Newspaper has gathered details about the cause of the lone accident that claimed the life of an 18-sitter Hummer bus on its way from Ogbomoso to Iseyin on Tuesday evening.
A source close to the Park Management System (PMS) office in Iseyin told our correspondent that over-speeding by the driver, popularly called Alhaji Lukmon Olope Omipoleko made it impossible for him to apply the break when one of the tyres burst in motion.
The vehicle was reported to have tumbled multiple times, flinging out some passengers, leading to the death of the driver, a Hausa passenger, Usman Muhammed and a baby of less than a year old, out of the ten passengers in the vehicle.
Further enquiries revealed that three other passengers, including the mother of the dead baby, were injured while four others who are students of University of Ilorin were without injuries.
The source, who preferred anonymity counseled commercial drivers to do away with over-speeding, as it has caused the death of many people.
“The mangled vehicle only tells you one thing, that is the fact that the vehicle was on high speed when one of its tyres burst and the driver could not control it, that is why such summersaulting happened.
“We drivers should value our lives and the lives of our passengers, there is no speed we can do that can make up for the lives in the vehicles,” he said.
