Ebedi Frontliners Hail Alumni As IDGS Clocks 58 on Monday

…..Blames Poor Students Results on School Management, Parents

Members of Ebedi Frontliners, a socio-cultural group from Iseyin in Iseyin local Government area of Oyo State have commended the old students of Iseyin District Grammar School (IDGS), for taking up the effort of reviving the glory of the school.

IDGS was established in 1964 and it had coverage of students admission from Iseyin to the Tede, in the present Atisbo local government area.

In a statement signed by the group’s Director of Publicity, Alhaji Segun Fasasi on Monday, the school, which has produced many notable Nigerians, deserved better attention from all stakeholders than it has witnessed.

Fasasi held that major renovation works that have been witnessed in IDGS were embarked upon by alumni, especially during the past State administrations when school facilities and structures were abandoned by government.

He saluted the undying efforts of the alumni members that have contributed to the revamping of facilities in the school and called on old students of other schools in the community to take the baton from those of IDGS so that students of the public schools could have better environments for learning.

“We use this medium to commend and encourage various sets of IDGS Alumni that have set contributed towards revamping structures and other facilities in the school.

“Today, only one or two structures out of over 30 buildings have not been renovated, this is majorly the work of the alumni and they have encouraged the State government to also do same for the school.

“Today, IDGS has a functioning library, a modern ICT center, decent classrooms, laboratories and others, which has set it apart, from the beginning as the choice of all from all the communities that used to own the school.”

On the students academic performance, the body laid the blame on the doorstep f the school management, saying the attitude of teachers nowadays is different from how it used to be in the old.

“Our teachers then were our assistant parents, we even feared them than most of our parents, so you have no reason not to do homework, class assignments and engage in other academic activities, you will be punished at school and your parents will also do same for you at home.

“We call on the management of IDGS to please change their notion of “we cannot cry more than the bereaved” to turn their back to students that are wayward in the school,”
