Ex-Convict Nabbed With 5.9kg Cocaine At Lagos Airport
An ex-convict, Onyeka Charles has been arrested for importing 5.9kg of substance believed to be cocaine to Nigeria through the Muritala Muhammed Airport on Thursday evening by the men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The drug was packed in cans of deodorants and lip gloss containers but the scanning machines at the entry points of the airport caught the concealed substance and the suspect was arrested.
The anti-drug trafficking agency informed journalists that Charles has served a seven years jail term at Ethiopia and got his freedom in 2020, but later returned to the same crime that earlier sent him to jail.
The agency’s statement reads “after serving a seven year jail term in Ethiopia and freed in 2020, ex-convict, Onyeka Charles Madukolu was on Thursday, arrested by operatives of NDLEA, at the MMI Airport, Lagos for importing into Nigeria, 5.90kg of cocaine concealed in cans of deodorants and ladies lip gloss.“
Many Nigerians are reported you be serving jail terms in foreign countries without their relatives at home knowing, while some have been killed in countries where punishment for drug trafficking is death penalty.
