First Bank Closes 65 South-East Branches Over IPOB’s Clash With Security

Branches of First Bank in all the South-East region have been shut down due to the faceoff between young separatist fighters and the security agencies.

In the last three weeks, reports of shooting and killing of policemen, burning of police facilities as well as offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have been on the rise.

Among the bank branches closed are the 2nd Asa Road branch at Aba, Aba (Ogbor Hill) branch, Arochuckwu branch at Old Aba-Owerri road and the Eletromart branch, opposite Premier Breweries along Onitsha-Asaba expressway in Onitsha.

The unrest in all South-East States and some part of the South-South made President Buhari voice out on Tuesday that his administration would descend on the separatist fighters and charged security personnel to do more in dousing the fire of unrest in the region.
