Hoards of Motorcyclists Head For Ibadan, Oyo Communities As Lagos Bans Okada

*Motorcycles Impounded on Tuesday by a joint Taskforce in Lagos*

Commercial motorcyclists were on Tuesday descended upon by security agents in Lagos, as the State’s ban on commercial motorcycle riding in the State came into force.

Our correspondent reported that hoards of those that escaped being arrested among the motorcycle riders have been heading towards Ibadan and major towns in Oyo State.

Security Implication
The Lagos State government came into the decision to ban Okada riding in Lagos due to the rising insecurity in the metropolis, as many armed attacks, robberies and killings were linked to Okada riders.

Calls have been directed at the Oyo State government and the police authority to scale up routine patrol and monitoring in the State, so as to nip security crisis in the bud.

Mr Mufutau Ashafa, a farmer and public school teacher in Itesiwaju local government said “we have all heard about the ban on Okada in Lagos and the enforcement that followed, many of these boys have been coming to our communities and we may not have the capacity to control them if there is a spike in violence.

”Our government in Oyo State and the police authority should not wait till there is high crime rate before they take up their responsibilities of effective policing of our highways and major roads.“

The Police Public Relations Officer (P.R.O) in Oyo State could not be contacted to give an insight into the development as at the time of filing this report.
