“We are on our way to the Northern part of the federation, the bus contained Minna/Abuja passengers, sixteen people lost their lives in the horrific accident.”

That is the voice of Abdulmumin Opeyemi, a 300Level Surveying and Geoinformatics student of the Federal University of Technology, Minna as he spoke with The Chronicler Newspaper on Wednesday.

The eighteen-sitter Mazda bus driven by an Oke-Ogun driver loaded at Owode park and set out early (7:30am) on Saturday 14th October 2023 and the vehicle connected the yet-to-be-completed Oyo-Ogbomoso road when the driver made attempt to overtake a trailer without honking. Unfortunately, the trailer driver at that moment swerved left and the bus collided under high speed with the rear of the trailer, leaving sixteen passengers dead.

Opeyemi who is a native of Iseyin sustained a minor cut on his head said he regained consciousness later in the night and just left the General hospital Oyo on Monday as he had reached out to the management of his school about the incident.

As at Press time, only Abdulmumin and another male northerner passenger escaped death while others died and their corpses were deposited at the General Hospital, Owode Oyo.
