…..Drivers Attest To 3Kilometer Interval Patrol Points

Drivers of commercial and private vehicles plying roads linking the Iseyin local government area from Ibadan, Oyo, Abeokuta, Okeho and Saki axis have lauded the efforts of the local government authority and the Amotekun corps for establishing daily patrol points along the roads.

The Chronicler Newspaper gathered that since about two weeks, the patrol points have been in existence in all these roads, giving commuters the needed confidence to ply these roads without the fear of kidnappers or armed robbers.

While speaking with our correspondent on Tuesday, Mr Oluwole Amoje who is a trader and frequent user of the Moniya-Iseyin road said the new development has driven out the fears that commuters used to have while passing these major entry roads.

He appreciated the men of the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), popularly known as Amotekun, for standing with the people during the period when the federal government has failed to live up to the expectations of securing the lives and properties of residents of the State.

”This period in our existence calls for sober reflection, we have to appreciate those that thought of this idea of strengthening the security of the community through this effort, I can see that within every three kilometers, there is a patrol van of Amotekun with the men of the outfit in combat form.

”We thank our Chairman for this effort and also call on the police to give their own support to this initiative, we all live in this space, nobody is an island, we are all residents of the community, so we should come together to end insecurity.”

Mr Bayo Akanmu, a commercial driver plying the Moniya-Iseyin road said he prayed that the patrol effort will not be a flash in the pan, as he called on the local government authority to encourage the Amotekun and local vigilante men with required incentives to make them do more.

”For a very long time now, it has been the Amotekun and local vigilante people that have been on the forefront of confronting all sorts of insecurity in our local communities, this new effort to man the entry roads by the Amotekun showed that our political leaders are also feeling what we are feeling.”

The Chairman, Iseyin local government, Iseyin, Honorable Mufutau Abilawon, in a WhatsApp chat, said the move to secure the roads leading to the community was in tandem with the State government’s efforts to reassure the people of Oyo State of the safety of their lives, businesses and properties.

He said the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde has charged every local government Chairman to work alongside all the security personnel in their communities to provide enabling environment for their people to go about their lawful duties.

He also alluded to the need to stamp out cases of kidnapping for ransom in the local community, which high he said could only be stopped with the support of the people.

”The government can only put in place the enabling environment, part of which we are doing by mandating patrol points at our entry roads to restore confidence in the commuters who at a point were jittery of traveling on some of these roads.

”We have Amotekun patrol points at designated kilometers, not only to ward off attacks but to give people the needed sense of safety and this we shall continue until we stamp out criminalities in our community,” he said.
