……Lambasts The Military Over Silence on The Incidence

A socio-cultural group in Iseyin, Ebedi Frontliners, Iseyin (E.F.I), has reacted to the protracted hold in captivity of three indigenes of the community that were abducted on the 27th December, 2023 at their residence in Kaduna by kidnappers, demanding the sum of Hundred Million Naira.

The group said in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Segun Fasasi and made available to The Chronicler Newspaper on Thursday at Iseyin, that the long period of captivity has wrecked havoc on the psyche of the couple and their nephew, taken along by the abductors, the family left behind as well as the entire community.

Recall that Squadron Leader Nurudeen Popoola, a Nigerian Airforce officer, his wife, Dr. Ganiyat Olawale-Popoola, a practicing medical doctor, and Abdulmugniy Folaranmi, a 16year old 100 level student of the Nigerian Air Force Institute of Technology, Kaduna, living with the couple, were kidnapped since December, 2023 at the Institute’s official quarters, leaving behind a toddler belonging to the couple.

The group said the family of the victims have made all possible efforts to get financial assistance from people of means after selling off the properties of the couple, but have not been able to get half of what the abductors demanded.

They therefore called on President Bola Tinubu, the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, Governor Uba Sanni of Kaduna State as well as Barrister Ahmed Raji, SAN, Barrister Jelili Owonikoko, SAN among other philanthropists from Iseyin to urgently come to the aid of the abductees in order to safe their lives.

“It is very disheartening to know that the three victims, who are coincidentally indigenes of Iseyin, are still in captivity, sixty-five days after they were abducted
from their official quarters and the sum of hundred million naira announced as ransom, the most painful part is the silence of the Nigerian Military on this particular matter in which an officer of the rank of ‘Squadron Leader’ and his wife who worked for the military as a medical personnel as well as their nephew who was a student of the institution were snatched and no effort was seen being made by the top hierarchy of the military.

“Since the announcement of the ransom by the kidnappers, who we learnt, have subjected our brothers and sister to unimaginable torture, the family has been running from pillar to post, looking for ways to pay the sum and secure their release, they have sold the couple’s properties while the parents of the Abdulmugniy Folaranmi have also put theirs up for sale so as to see their young boy again, all these amount to was not up to half of the amount demanded.

“This is why we are beseeching Your Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, Your Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde and Your Excellency, Governor Uba Sanni, to please come to the aid of our brothers and sister, we have heard of inhuman maltreatment meted out the trio which we know has damaging effects on their psyche, but we join other indigenes of Iseyin in prayer for their safe return soonest,” the group said.
