My People Will Not Accept Shoddy Repair Works, Hon Olasupo Warns Contractor

Hon Abiodun Olasupo, representing Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Kajola, Iwajowa Federal Constituency) has warned contractors handling repair works on Iseyin-Ipapo-Okaka road to ensure quality delivery.
Olasupo, who is the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Legislative Compliance made the disclosure on Sunday in Iseyin during an oversight inspection of the project.

The federal government had in the 2017 Appropriation Act awarded the contract for the repair of the road from its deplorable state.
“The contractor had since moved to site, but sadly doing a shoddy and horrible job here. I am a Quantity Surveyor and know the quality of job required according to the details of the contract.
“I was on the road today doing my oversight function and I have actually stopped the contractor for doing a shoddy job.
“I know the value of the job and what is to be done. This contract is my intervention project. I know the beginning of the job and will ensure that I do what my people has entrusted me to do,” he said.
Olasupo, who is also a member of the committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), stated that he had sought intervention for the repairs of the road and was granted in the 2017 Appropriation Act.
He stated that he had applied for more money for the second section of the road, which he assured would soon be granted.
The lawmaker said he had also sought intervention for the Iseyin-Ijaye-Moniya road and was granted, adding that Gov. Abiola Ajimobi has already awarded complete construction of the road.
Olasupo commended the governor for awarding the construction of the road, saying the FG intervention efforts was temporary till the State government would start reconstruction of the road.
He stated that two 500KVA transformers through the Rural Electrification Agency would soon be brought to the constituency as part of the intervention projects granted to his office.
The lawmaker said that two critical maternity centres has been renovated as part of the intervention through the federal ministry of health, adding 50 poles of solar street lights were also expected.
“You can see that what we understand as intervention is what other people call padding. If it is padding, the above mentioned are the products of padding,” he said.
Olasupo stated that constituency projects technically does not exist, adding what they have was zonal intervention projects approved by the presidency.
According to him, “there is an amount of money approved by the presidency for zonal intervention projects which is shared among the six geo-political zones of the country.
“The one accrued to the south-west is shared among the six states. Whatever that comes to each state, 40 percent goes to the senators and 60 percent goes to House of Representatives members.
“The truth is, states that has high numbers of representatives in the house take far lesser amount. What comes to Oyo State annually is not more than N65 million and it is domiciled in an agency of choice.”
He stated that the share of his constituency was targeted at providing texts, uniforms and educational development, adding it has been domiciled with the appropriate agency.
The lawmaker said that the intervention projects mentioned earlier were special interventions, which depends largely on how the member could go out for it.
Olasupo stated that he has always carried some categories of people in the state along on all his efforts, particularly the governor.
“You know sometimes, the fact that a project is captured does not mean it would be implemented. It is always based on availability of fund.
“You have to be careful of what you will say as a politician, so that you won’t just raise the people’s hope unnecessarily. I do carry everyone along when such is sure for implementation,” he said.
