NNL Super 8: Distrupted Wednesday Matches, Again Rescheduled For Friday

The distrupted match-day two game of the ongoing NNL Super Eight Play off between Gombe United and DMD as well as the tie between Bendel Insurance and Ekiti United earlier shifted to Thursday will now hold on Friday.

Heavy downpour on Wednesday afternoon disrupted two of the four match-day 2 games of the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoff in Enugu.

Gombe United versus DMD FC could not be completed due heavy downpour as it was ended in the 65th minute when the ball could not bounce on the turf. Due to this, Ekiti United versus Bendel Insurance could not hold.

Both games were initially shifted to Thursday but will now be played on Friday.

Earlier before the last two games of match-day two were postponed, the first two games of the day were concluded.

In the concluded games, Niger Tornadoes defeated Elkanemi Warriors 2-0 on Wednesday morning while Shooting Stars Sports Club played a 1-1 draw with Remo Stars.

NNL explained that the postponed games could not hold on Thursday because there is a Sit-at-home order in Enugu by the Indigenious People of Biafra (IPOB) following President Muhammadu Buhari scheduled visit to Imo State on Thursday.

With the latest adjustment of the NNL Super Eight schedule, Thursday now becomes the rest day for all the players as no match will be played on the day.

NNL had, in a press statement released on Wednesday night, announced the rescheduling of the remaining match-day two games.

“Kindly note, the remaining match day 2 NNL Super 8 between Gombe Utd and DMD,(25mins), will now be played on Friday 10 September, 2021 and not Thursday 9 September as earlier announced.
Time is 8am”.

“Gombe Utd were 1 goal up as at the time rainfall made the pitch un playable. Also the Bendel Insurance vs Ekiti United match day two will follow immediately”, the release stated.

NNL Super Eight playoff will determine the four teams that will gain promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League this season.
