Pensioners Hail Makinde on Protest, Condemn Killings At Lekki

Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo State have commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his style of handling the protest against police brutality in Oyo State.

The union, in a statement signed the State Chairman, Comrade Chief Abolade Isiaka and the secretary, Comrade Olusegun Abatan on Thursday said the governor has set a pace in crisis handling that other governors in the country should emulate.

The union however condemned the killings of protesters at Lekki in Lagos and prayed for quick recovery of those wounded.

“Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo State Council condemns in strong terms the killing of innocent protesters at Lekki toll gate, Lagos and wish quick recovery for the injured.

“For the relations of those killed in the milieu may God give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses. Our Union wishes to advise that the silence of the Federal Government could be read to mean that our youth should destroy the South-West or the entire South just as the youth in the North are destroying the North.

“We appeal to our youth to sheathe their swords, we should not play into the hands of those that are not wishing us well.

“We are using this medium to appreciate the governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde for the uncommon maturity he displayed in handling the current impasse occasioned by the protest.

“We wish that other governors in the country can emulate the actions and ideals that our governor upholds,” he enthused.

They advised youths in the State to sheath their sword to avoid further killings of young ones who represented the fire of Nigeria.
