….Warns Politicians Against Reckless Driving at Campaign Rallies

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) RS11.311 Iseyin Unit Command has on Wednesday commenced its 2022 ‘ember months’ safety campaign, calling on motorists to shun acts that might endanger them and other road users.
The Unit Commander, ACC Margaret Adesola in her speech at the event, appreciated all the stakeholders who took part in the programme, charging them to spread the message of the year’s theme: “Avoid Speeding, Overloading and Unsafe Tyres To Arrive Alive.”

Adesola said the safety campaign was timely as the ember months are characterized with high volume of human and increased vehicular movements across the country, which usually cause what she called ‘avoidable crashes.’
She listed some major causes of road carnages, especially in Iseyin community to include riding of cars and motorcycles by underage riders, driving against traffic, use of trailer’s horn and fog-lights by motorcyclists.

“The corps, in order to curb the menace of road traffic crashes and its effects has created/enacted some laws and policies which will not only reduce carnages on our roads when crashes occur but also reduce severity and allow for safe road use consciousness.
“Among these policies include Introduction To Speed Limit Device, Visit To Religious Centers, Motor Parks, Academic Institutions, Markets, in order to propagate the message of safety, as safety is everybody’s responsibility and many others.

“I want to categorically say with all candor that a lot of drivers in Nigeria exhibit bad driving culture, outright disregard for the road traffic laws as they are always over-speeding, making wrongful overtaking, overloading, poor vehicle maintenance, lack of consideration for other road users among others.
“The underage riding of motorcycles is a common sight in Iseyin, which is a major cause of road traffic crashes, road safety is a shared responsibility, parents and guardians have the responsibility of ensuring that young ones under age eighteen are prevented from driving/riding, as this will go a long way in reducing unnecessary deaths and fatalities on our roads.
“I use this medium to call on political leaders as we all know that we are in campaign period, that they should join hands with FRSC in ensuring that traffic is well controlled during rallies.”

The event was witnessed by the Chairman of Iseyin local government, Hon. Mufutau Abilawon and the Leader of the local government legislative house, Hon. Waheed Abiodun, representatives of the Iseyin traditional council, represented by the Ikolaba of Iseyin, Chief Ismail Odubiyi, the Iseyin Development Union (I.D.U), Oyo State Park Management System and men of the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Customs Service, the Immigration Service and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Service (NSCDC).
Others are men of the Operation Burst, Man’ O War, Vigilante, Iseyin Youths Forum (IYF), the Tricycle Associations, ACOMORAN and others.
In his speech, the Chairman, Iseyin local government area, Hon. Mufutau Abilawon implored road users to observe road signs and keep to speed limits while urging FRSC personnel to do their duties with discipline and professional ethics.
Abilawon assured the FRSC Iseyin Unit Command of the support of the local government whenever the need arises.
Highlights of the event include road show, short plays by the members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) and the Road Safety Club, goodwill messages, cutting of the 2022 Ember Months Safety Campaign Cake.
