The Managing Director of Emmak Publishing Nigeria Limited, the publisher of Best Legacy Series, Mr. Omotosho Gbenga has disclosed that the rate of piracy in the sector has become so alarming and has killed many small publishing businesses.

Omotosho said this while speaking with The Chronicler at his Iseyin office on Friday, adding that only strict enforcement of the law on piracy will save the industry as exchange rate has gone up, affecting the cost of publishing books.

He said the company currently boasts of sales coverage of Oke-Ogun, Ibarapa and some part of Ibadan, while targeting the South-West market of books for nursery and primary schools.

“We currently have a sales coverage of major part of Oyo State, Edo and even one Northern State, but we have a focus of securing the South-West Nigeria soon, our target for now apart from sales spread is to keep our eyes on books for Nursery and Primary schools.

“On piracy, it has killed many young publishing businesses, we have experienced so many issues on piracy, it does not encourage small businesses and also decreases government income in revenue.

“We can only urge the federal and State governments to please put more into the enforcement pressure, only government can help stop the spread, police should always be on the look out for our call for arrest of marketers of pirated books,” he pleaded.

Gbenga called on proprietors of private schools to call the phone numbers of Emmak Publishing Nigeria Limited ( 08038079425 and 08035818077 ) whenever any marketer brings pirated copies of their books for sale.

Best Legacy publications have over twenty books that are currently enjoying usage by private schools in Oyo State on various subjects.
