Poly Ibadan Inaugurates Newly Elected SUG Executives,
….As School Management Pledges Support For Union Programmes

Following the peaceful election and resolution of disputes among aggrieved students, the management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, has inaugurated the Student Union Government Executives and Student Representative Council for the 2022/2023 academic session.
The inauguration ceremony of the newly elected student leaders which had in attendance the institution top officials and students leaders was held at the North campus Assembly Hall of the institution.
The Rector of the institution, Prof. Kazeem Adekunle Adebiyi who was represented by his deputy, Mrs. Abiodun Olubunmi Olubamiwa, oversaw the swearing in ceremony and in her words, she declared that “I have the honour in my capacity as the Rector and the Chairman of the Board of Studies, of The Polytechnic, Ibadan to declare open the swearing-in-ceremony for members of the Students’ Union Executive Council and Senate” for the 2022/2023 Academic session.








Adebiyi encouraged the newly elected student union government not to turn itself into a violent pressure group or be an alternative authority to the management of the Institution, but rather be an avenue to articulate the interests and views of the Students on academic and welfare matters.
”It is imperative to note that Students’ Union is not a vehicle for intimidating members of the public and fellow students, Student leadership must eschew political vendetta, internal wrangling and destructive youthful exuberance which can tarnish our collective image, Students Unionism does not confer immunity on students or their representatives, under no circumstance must student leaders take laws into their hands in the guise of “Aluta”.
“Note that every member of the Students’ Union Executive and Senate must abide by the matriculation oath, you are therefore subject to the authority of the Management and the Board of Studies.
“Also I enjoin you to ensure that your academic programme does not suffer at the expense of engaging in Union activities, While the Management will continue to work towards the development of the Institution, welcome from you constructive contributions to the growth of the Institution and as partners in progress, it will not condone any act of gangsterism or dictation on the part of the students’ leaders, Management will support and assist your Union as appropriate”




Adebiyi implored the students Union leaders to be judicious and prudent in the utilization of their resources as they were expected them to make land mark projects that will live long after their stay in the Institution.
He pledged that, the management would welcome good ideas from them and to negotiate, dialogue and resolve issues through round table discussion.
He further urged them to emulate good qualities of their past predecessors in ensuring that their administration sustains the peaceful trend, uphold the good image of the Institution and take her to greater height.
The Rector thanked Oyo State Government under the leadership of Engr. Abiodun Oluseyi Makinde for what he called his tremendous assistance to the Institution.




While delivering his speech, the President-elect, Comrade Oloyede Okiki Joshua, appreciated the entire students for electing the team into office in order to act on their behalf and interest.
Oloyede stated that his administration will not only prioritise on student welfarism but also carry the management along in their decisions.
He tagged his administration with the name, ‘Era of Pragamatism’, which he said would proffer solutions to challenges with practical approaches.
“We know the challenges that lie ahead, we’re aware of the limiting factors that are available to mar the progress of this administration. We have put God first in this administration and our resilience will break every factors that stand against us, our dedication will break every challenges that comes our way and that is the reason we have chosen this era to be “Era of Pragmatism”, which is an era where every challenge would be met with a practical solution and concentration of administration on facts and not emotions,” Oloyede stated.
The Union President however sought the support and cooperation of the management, student stakeholders and others for his administration and promised to execute plans that he made during the electoral processes.
Administration of oath was conducted for the newly elected students leaders by the Registrar, Mrs. Theresa Fawale who was represented by her deputy, Mrs. Abosede Ayoade.
