Over 150 widows in Iseyin local government and environs have benefited from an emergency food relief package donated by the Folashade Agoro-Braimoh Foundation on Wednesday to cushion the effect of government’s lockdown order, occasioned by the dreaded Corona Virus pandemic.

Among the beneficiaries of this gesture were widows under the umbrella of Food Sellers Association, Iseyin, widows in the Artizan society and those among Food Sellers Association and elderly women within communities in the local government.

Describing the gesture as timely and God-sent, Mama Taye Mopa and Mrs Safurat Ogundiran who are market women affected by the impact of the lockdown order prayed for the foundation and individuals behind it for coming to their aid.

“We make little money from our daily sales at the market and hawking of our wares but since government has banned us from doing that, majority of us have been affected and as old as we are, we are hungry, that is why we appreciate the gesture of this foundation for coming to our assistance.

“The people behind this program will never go hungry, God Almighty will replenish them in many folds, they will never beg at their old age,” Mama Mopa prayed.

The brain behind the foundation, Mrs Folashade Agoro-Braimoh who resided in the United Kingdom said she realized the need to support the widows at a crucial time like this because she grew up to know the sufferings widows go through to survive and care for their children.

Mrs Agoro-Braimoh added that her foundation has been catered for the widows’ welfare in the last ten years by providing essential supports for those in trading and financial input for the elderly among them.

She urged the general public to keep safe distance from each other, as advised by medica experts while they stay home till the pandemic subsided.

“It is our prayer that the COVID-19 pandemic subsides soon, our people at home (in Nigeria), especially those in the rural areas live mostly on petty trading and subsistence farming, one would wonder how they will survive the lockdown order without government’s support,” she exclaimed.
