Reading Culture: The Chronicler Newspaper Establishes Mini Library at Aseyin High School

In its drive to revive reading culture in public secondary schools, The Chronicler Newspaper has established a mini library at Aseyin High School in Iseyin.

The move to establish the library at the school was in response to calls from concerned individuals that the school lacked a library and functional laboratories for subjects like Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Agricultural Science.

While presenting the mini library, the publisher of The Chronicler Newspaper, Alhazan Abiodun said the latest effort was the sixth in Secondary schools like Iseyin District Grammar School, Ansar’ud Deen Grammar School, Ajayi Crowther Memorial Grammar School, Baptist Secondary Grammar School and Ekunle Community Grammar School.

He added that textbooks and literature books have been donated to many secondary schools within the local government to enhance the reading culture by bringing interesting books closer to the students.

“This effort is calculated to bring back the reading culture among our young school-goers in secondary schools within the community, we are in the age where students would rather ask their parents for hand phones instead of books, we have to bring the books back towards them.

“We all know that book reading is not just to pass examinations, but to broaden the scope of the students about life and what is ahead of them in the future, so we have implored the school administration and the teachers to allow the students free access to the books.”

He called on well-to-do indigenes of the community, old students of Aseyin High School and outside to assist Aseyin High School towards having standard laboratories and library.

Alhazan also prayed for those that contributed towards the success of setting up the mini library for the school, adding that their inputs like donation of books and financial supports have had positive impacts on the younger ones.

In his words, the Principal of the School, Mr Thomas Abilawon appreciated the Publisher of The Chronicler Newspaper, Mr Alhazan Abiodun for facilitating the establishment of the mini library to the school.

He said the gesture was a new beginning of positive developments in the school, which he lamented has been abandoned by its old students.
