If the senior advocate heeds the call for him to join the race, it will be an answer to some agitations from Iseyin community to have one of its own contest for the red chamber come 2023, as People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressive Congress (APC) have not favored Iseyin or Oke-Ogun in their zoning and consensus arrangements.

The leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Abuja has been putting pressure on the Iseyin-born legal practitioner, Ahmed Raji (SAN) to pick the ticket and contest the 2023 gubernatorial elections in Oyo State.

A close source to the party told The Chronicler Newspaper that the efforts were to lure the senior advocate into the party and boost its presence in the State.

Alhaji Raji was said to have told the party top echelon at Abuja to give him time to consult with his people at home before giving a response to their offer.

He was quoted to have eventually responded to the SDP that he would not want to take part in politics in the present time as he had lots of community development commitments which he was shouldering.

“It is true that the party top echelon in Abuja reached out to the notable lawyer because they realized he has the capacity and enjoys the love of his people, he has declined the offer.

“They wanted him to contest under their party flag and he asked them to allow him consult his people, he later gave them the thumb-down sign which indicated he was not interested, I guess they wanted to use his name and resources to boost the name and chances of the party in Oyo State.”

Earlier, another rumor had it that Ahmed Raji was interested in vying for Senatorial ambition under one of the notable parties in Nigeria, but this was also put to rest as his close associates have said the case was far from the truth.
