Students Urged To Maximize Advantages of Social Media in Education

Students in higher institutions of learning have been urged to maximize the gains in the use of the social media to benefit them in their pursuit of academic success.
The call was made recently by the Publisher of The Chronicler Newspaper, Mr. Alhazan Abiodun at the annual Students’ Week of the Federation of Iseyin Local Government Students (FILGS), Kwara Polytechnic Chapter.

The event which held at the Iseyin City Hall witnessed special lecture, delivered by Alhazan on the “Effects of The Social Media on Education: Focus on FILGS of Old and FILGS of Today”, music and dancing session as well as question and answer sessions where participants won many prizes.

In his lecture, Abiodun said as much as the social media has many positive advantages on education attainment for students, it also has many negative effects, which he listed for the students to avoid.
He urged them to always strive to seek knowledge through the internet to overcome the current economic realities which had truncated the quest of many youths to acquire western education.
”In this period of economic downturn, as a student that is serious about achieving success, you can read and study ahead of your class by using the internet and social media, so many publications are online that are pertaining to your line of study, read about them and the authors.

”This approach will cut the cost of procuring textbooks from the bookshop, except for a situation whereby you are to buy a certain publication from your lecturers, it is cost effective that way.”
The guest lecturer warned students to be wary of joining social media groups where they could be initiated to cultism, internet fraud or other criminal tendencies.
The President, FILGS Kwara Polytechnic Chapter, Comrade Fadare Sulaimon in his words, appreciated the invited guests and assured that the body would serve pathfinding role for the betterment of students of the institution to achieve academic greatness.
“With a grateful heart, I appreciate your love and your ability to create time for the 2021/2022 FILGS Kwara Polytechnic DAY which is tagged as AMALA, AWARD, AND INAUGURATION DAY.

“Thanks so much for making our program successful and colorful. May Almighty God will uphold us and continue to move us forward and Almighty God will reward you abundantly,” he prayed.
