‘We Are Here to take all 3 points at stake’– Super Eagles
Super Eagles Media Officer Babafemi Raji has assured Nigerian soccer fans that the absence of ten of their regular players will not deter the Super Eagles from beating their hosts, the Blue Sharks in their backyard in Cape Verde.
In an exclusive radio conversation with BCOS Sports Reporter, Boluwaji Ogunmola, Raji stated that the team has moved on from the disappointment of travelling with only 19 players for the World Cup qualifiers against Cape Verde due to COVID-19 related issues and focused on picking the maximum 3 points.
Mr Raji, while featuring on Oluyole FM Daily Sports Programme, Sports Tit-bits on Tuesday morning via telephone call, explained the process which led to exclusion of ten players from the squad.
“We had to adhere strictly to COVID-19 safety protocols, So all the players were tested. When the results of the first test came out, and they returned positive we had to ask them to stay, self-isolate, while the second test is taken as well, that was why 19 players travelled, the second test came out negative and we’re happy the players are fine”, he said.
He went on to allay the fears of Nigerians on the depletion of their national team squad for the tie, stating that Eagles are battle ready for today’s encounter.
“The coaching crew have moved on in terms of preparations for the game. The coach has in mind what he wants to do, how they would play. We want to win for the absent players. We are determined to turn negative news positive for all the players in camp…we are just good to go play Cape Verde, get the desired victory and return home”, the Super Eagles M.O assured.
The Day Two 2022 World Cup qualifiers between the visiting Super Eagles and their hosts, the Blue Sharks is billed for 3:00pm in Cape Verde (5:00pm Nigeria time).
According to Raji, the Super Eagles and their officials will leave their hotel for the stadium by 1:10pm, two hours before kick off time, to prepare early for the game.
