The Chairman of Oyo State Western Nigerian Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, General Kunle Togun rtd. has urged the federal government to allow operatives of the outfit to make use of AK 47 and other standard weapons to fight banditry in the Southwestern States.

Togun states this while delivering a lecture at the special meeting of Oke-Ogun Development Consultative Forum (ODCF) which held on Saturday at Otu Township Hall, Otu, Itesiwaju local government area of Oyo State.
He declared that Oyo State is the number one target of the foreign bandits because of the vast land space that are close to foreign borders and body of thick forest where they could hide and attack the people, especially in the Oke-Ogun region.

The retired army general accused President Muhammadu Buhari of being the major backer of Boko Haram and bandits in Nigeria as his government policies allowed the foreign Fulanis free entry into the country, even during the Covid-19 traveling restriction across the globe.

”During the COVID-19 global restriction, these people were allowed into Nigeria and every corner of the country they wished without hindrance, Buhari is their backer and we all know.
”These people were coming to Oke-Ogun in trailers and some of our traditional rulers allowed this in their domains despite that people took pictures and videos which they posted online, we will not stop talking about it.

”Our Amotekun corps have tried despite the physical deficiencies in proper weaponry capacity, the tempo of attacks in Oyo State has gone so low but what happened why the federal government cannot allow this outfit to protect the people with AK 47 when they know that the bandits carry rocket launchers, AK 47 and other sophisticated weapons?
”For us to maintain peace and keep these bandits away we will resort to the use of bees and poisonous snakes, I have traveled as far as ‘Ibariba’ area to see great hunters on this, this can even change the perspective of warfare in the world, instead of physical weaponry, let us use wild animals for once.”
Highlights of the meeting include discussions on the ways forward for Oke-Ogun region in having an indigene as the next governor of Oyo State, come 2027 and installation of a new national executive council, led by Barrister Ahmed Raji SAN as the National President of ODCF.
