Wike Has The Right To Invite APC Governors To His Events – Baraje

….Says PDP Will Not Jump The Gun on National Officers

A former National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Baraje has reacted to insinuations that Governor Nyesom Wike’s invitation of some All Progressive Congress (APC)’s governors to his official commissioning of projects as sign of his decision to join the ruling national party.

Baraje said this while answering questions on the Arise Tv’s Morning Show interview program where he was asked if he was not concerned that the governor of Rivers State has recently been making moves, indicative of his preparation to join the APC.

He intimated that Wike is a strong member of PDP that has done so much for the unity of the party and there has been no action of the governor that has gone against the norms of the party and the idea of inviting the opposition figures to official commissioning is a sign of politics without bitterness.

Talking about the invitation of the governor of Lagos State, Jide Sanwoolu by the Rivers Governor to the recent commissioning of some road projects, Baraje said “It is nothing extraordinary, that is what we are preaching in Nigerian politics, politics without bitterness, commissioning projects with an opposition party leader or governor is a way of inviting them to come and see what we have done right.

“All PDP governors have shown the capacity to deliver on democratic dividends, they have done so much in the areas infrastructural development, so Wike is free to invite the opposition over to observe his success.

“If during these events Wike has said some things against the party, PDP will look into that but he has not done anything bad, but whatever the issue of Wike becomes, the party will still go ahead to achieve success.

“Until Wike declares that he is no longer a member of PDP, he is still of our party, he is not just an ordinary member but a strong member and leader of the party, he has not done anything ultra-vire against our party.”

The former PDP Chairman described the call from some quarters for the removal of the incumbent National Chairman of PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu on the basis of the fact that the North is having large chunk of the national officers, while the Presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar is a northerner as unnecessary, saying that the party has a process of appointing its officers to reflect a national spread.

Alhaji Baraje said PDP has internal mechanism which reflected in 2008 immediately after late President Umar Yar’Adua became the President and the then national Chairman from the north had to go for another Chairman from the South,
